Renuka Talwar residence
A private residence on one of Delhi's busiest peripheral corridors, where the rooms had to be quiet in spite of the traffic beyond the boundary wall.

For Ms. Renuka Talwar, daughter of Mr. K. P. Singh of DLF, AV Acoustics took the acoustic consultancy for a private residence of over an acre of built floor area on Delhi's PRR (Peripheral Ring Road) corridor. The address is a good one, but it carries sustained arterial traffic noise, which is the hardest kind of noise to keep out of a house.
Why traffic noise is difficult
Traffic noise ingress carries significant low-frequency energy content, and single-pane or thin double-glazed systems attenuate that poorly. Two things work against them: mass-law limitations at lower frequencies, and coincidence-dip degradation at mid-frequencies, which lands exactly where tyre and engine-drone harmonics sit. Glazing that looks heavy enough on paper can still let the drone through.
What was specified
The acoustic design brief called for a high-performance laminated and asymmetric Double Glazed Unit (DGU) configuration, engineered to achieve an elevated composite STC/Rw rating suitable for high-traffic arterial exposure.
- Laminated panes, to damp the glass itself rather than rely on mass alone.
- Asymmetric pane thicknesses, so that the coincidence dip of each pane falls at a different frequency and the assembly does not collapse across a band all at once.
- A composite STC/Rw rating set for arterial-road exposure rather than a general residential figure.
- Wall-envelope continuity around the glazing perimeter, to stop flanking transmission bypassing the glass.
The perimeter detail matters as much as the unit. Flanking transmission around a window reveal is a frequently overlooked failure mode in luxury residential retrofits, and it will undo an expensive glazing specification quietly and completely. The glass is only ever as good as the wall it sits in, so the envelope was treated as one continuous assembly rather than a set of windows ordered to a rating.
The result
Execution was carried out by the GX Glass engineering team under AV Acoustics' acoustic design supervision. Inside the house, the sense of calm is decoupled from the corridor running past the property line.
A benchmark for residences that sit directly on an arterial road: the glazing does the work, and the perimeter detailing keeps it honest.
