Badshah recording studio
A basement studio sharing a continuous structural slab with occupied floors above, which put footfall and building noise straight into the recording chain.

For Badshah, one of India's foremost rap artists and vocalists, AV Acoustics delivered a fully turnkey recording studio and office fit-out. The brief was among the most demanding in the discipline: a basement-level facility carrying severe flanking transmission and reverberant echo inherited from the continuous structural slab it shared with occupied floors above.
The problem
Basement recording environments are unforgiving. The rigid structural continuity of a shared slab transmits footfall, HVAC and structure-borne vibration directly into the recording chain unless the room is comprehensively decoupled from it. At the same time, untreated basement geometries tend to show excessive low-frequency modal build-up and flutter echo, so the room sounds wrong even when it is quiet.
The construction
A fully isolated room-within-a-room was specified, with every path back to the host structure interrupted. The inner room stands on its own floor, inside its own walls, under its own ceiling, and touches the building only through resilient components chosen to carry weight without carrying vibration.
- Floating-floor assemblies on resilient isolation mounts.
- Independently framed and decoupled wall systems, separated from the host structure by a continuous air cavity.
- Mass-loaded, damped partition build-ups engineered for reference-grade isolation performance.
The order of work matters. Isolation is structural and cannot be added later without opening the room up again, so the decoupling was resolved first and the acoustic treatment set out inside the shell it created.
Tuning the room
With the shell isolated, the studio's reverberation time and modal response were tuned to reference monitoring standards suitable for critical mixing and mastering decisions. The targets were the low ambient noise floors (NC-15 to NC-20) and the controlled RT60 profile expected of a professional-grade recording and monitoring environment, consistent with internationally recognised critical-listening-room guidance.
The result
The facility was delivered entirely on a turnkey basis, from the isolation construction through to the office fit-out alongside it. Taking the whole package keeps responsibility for the outcome in one place: the isolation, the treatment, the services penetrating the shell and the finishes are decided together rather than negotiated between trades on site.
For working musicians, sonic accuracy is inseparable from creative and commercial output. The room has to be trusted before a mix can be.
